Review #: 299
Description: Stagg Jr. Batch #15
Spirit: Bourbon
Background: Another batch of Buffalo Trace’s mashbill #1 barrel proof release. I have enjoyed my past pours and batches seemed to have gotten more consistent and higher quality, so let’s see if this one lives up to it at 131.1 proof
Distillery – Buffalo Trace
Bottler – Buffalo Trace
Brand – Stagg Jr.
Selection – N/A
ABV – 65.55%
Age – NAS
Nose – Cherry pie and vanilla ice cream, cherry cough lozenge, charcoal
Taste – Thick and heavy with caramel, brown sugar, cherry syrup, some cinnamon and oak too. Just very heavy and coating
Finish – Lots of baking spices, touch of oak. Little bit of orange and tart cherry. Fruit definitely takes a back seat to the spices.
Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? Yes, even maybe a little bit over MSRP
Thoughts: Just another solid batch. I thought this one was a bit denser and sweeter than batch 14, but much more aggressive with the spices on the finish. But it was just real enjoyable and the heat maintained a little bit more. I wouldn’t feel bad spending $70 or $80 for this, but even that is a bit of a dream.
