Description: Old Grand-Dad Bottled-In-Bond
Spirit: Bourbon
Background: Old Granddad is a long standing bourbon brand, currently owned by Jim Beam. Consisting of the same mashbill as the Basil Hayden brand, and the picture of the “Granddad” is actual Basil Hayden as well, the BiB comes in at a higher proof for about half the cost. Likely being younger stock, it’s still at least 4 years old so let’s see how it affects the cheaper bottle.
Distillery – Jim Beam

Score: 4
Would I buy a bottle? No, but I think it’s a fair value
Thoughts: The bottle comes with branding stating it is high rye, and it certainly shows up in the whiskey. The youth is apparent with some strong ethanol and a little mustiness, but the bump in proof helps and pushes it past Basil Hayden. I think at $20, it is very solid and if you want spice, this would be your house bottle. I prefer a little sweeter and would go with Evan Williams BiB at this price point, but it’s down to personal preference.
