Review #24 – Jameson Distillery Reserve

Review #24 – Jameson Distillery Reserve

Review #: 24
Description: Jameson Distillery Reserve
Spirit: Irish Whiskey

Background: Another Jameson offering, this being their Distillery Reserve offered only at the Bow St. Distillery (unsure if available at the actual distillery location). This is a blend of grain and malt whiskey aged in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry barrels. Let’s find out if it was worth the Distillery Premium.

Distillery – Midleton

Bottler – Midleton

Brand – Jameson

Selection – N/A

ABV – 40%

Age – 12 Years

Nose – Vanilla, nutty oak, raw apple and cherry
Taste – Honey, maple syrup, sherry and light oak
Finish – More oak comes in with barrel spices and cinnamon, medium warmth

Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? No, only because I believe there is a distillery exclusive cask strength that I’d prefer to try. I was not disappointing with this bottle though.

Thoughts: Much like the Bushmills Distillery Reserve I reviewed, the bottle holds some sentimental value to me as when I got it, it was my first time travelling by myself, and in a foreign city to boot. I really do enjoy this whisky, that has a lot of sweetness but then alot of drying sherry that helps to tone it down.  It would really benefit from a bump up in proof; even 46% would probably give it a decent bump.  I’ve seen some other reviews that there is a cask strength exclusive at the distillery but I’m not sure if the 12 year is still available.  If it is, I think it’s worth it to commemorate the experience.
