Description: Dancing Goat High Rye Bourbon: r/Bourbon #4264
Spirit: Bourbon
Background: 30 for 30: Day 21. Back to the Goat, but this time for some bourbon. This barrel shows 8 on the label, but was actually 9 years old (they didn’t have updated labels in time for bottling). It uses the MGP 75/21/4 mashbill. Nothing else really special…except it also had a $65 price tag.
Distillery – MGP
Bottler – Dancing Goat
Brand – Dancing Goat
Selection – r/Bourbon
ABV – 58.6%
Age – 9 Years
Nose – Cooked apples, cocoa, cinnamon raisin bread, dates, brownie batter, sweet toasted oak surrounds everything, a little bit of raspberry sneaks in. Very lovely.
Taste – Rich and buttery, vanilla, sweet corn, stewed apple, plum, caramel. Oak provides a nice balance so it isn’t overly sweet
Finish – Buttered kettle corn, warm caramel, freshly baked sandwich bread, roasted tree nut, melon pops in and gives a nice contrast along with some ripe, raw red apple
Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? Yes
Thoughts: Another banger. The age definitely differentiates it from the Tumblin’ Dice in the last review, but the texture is still there. The oak balances nicely with the sweet bread notes, but all is in harmony.
