Description: Blackadder Red Snake Cask #49
Spirit: Scotch
Background: Blackadder’s Red Snake line is still bottled without filtration and at cask strength, but with less information regarding the cask. This one was aged in a first fill ex-bourbon barrel for an unknown amount of time. Allegedly, this comes from a highland distillery, but that’s the most information I have been able to find.
Distillery – Undisclosed
Bottler – Blackadder
Brand – Blackadder
Selection – N/A
ABV – 61.1%
Age – NAS
Nose – Sweet malt, sour cherries, lemon juice, the ethanol stings pretty well
Taste – Honey, graham cracker, vanilla, some stone fruit in there
Finish – Tons of baking spices, orange peel and coriander for days, the heat is a bit aggressive but settles quickly for a long finish that lingers on the tongue and cheeks
Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? No
Thoughts: This was enjoyable but nothing crazy. The finish was great with different spices transforming over the length of it and just a little bit of sweet citrus in there to balance it out. I’m guessing this is a little on the younger side and maybe just a little more time in a cask would help calm it down.
