Review #377 – The Macallan Harmony Rich Cacao

Review #377 – The Macallan Harmony Rich Cacao

Review #: 377
Description: The Macallan Harmony Rich Cacao
Spirit: Scotch

Background: This is from The Macallan’s Initial Harmony Collection Release for 2021.  It is a collaboration with pastry chef Jodi Roca to try and blend the worlds of chocolate and whisky together.  The actual whisky was aged in sherry seasoned American and European oak for an undisclosed amount of time.  The box it comes in was made from Cacao Husks but I think that’s the only actual connection to chocolate.

Distillery – The Macallan

Bottler – The Macallan

Brand – The Macallan

Selection – N/A

ABV – 44%

Age – NAS

Nose – Malty, raisin bran cereal, honey, green apple, tobacco leaf, chocolate cake
Taste – Honey, raisin, stewed plums, wheat toast, milk chocolate
Finish – Chocolate becomes a bit more pronounced but more bitter, pepper and does get a bit metallic on the finish

Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? No

Thoughts: I’ll give it to them, they really nailed the malty, chocolatey aspect.  Not super heavy, but there, and I bet this pairs amazingly with chocolate.  That said, the metallic finish was a little off putting, and retailing at $200 means you are paying for the name.  Maybe half that would be ok, but you can do better.
