Review #409 – The Famous Grouse

Review #409 – The Famous Grouse

Review #: 409
Description: The Famous Grouse
Spirit: Scotch

Background: The Famous Grouse has a long history in Scotland with ties back to the early 1800s.  Now, it is a blend from the Edrington Group portfolio of distilleries.  This includes the likes of Highland Park, Macallan, Glenturret and Glenrothes.  It apparently is the best selling Scotch in Scotland, so we will see if that holds any merit.

Distillery – Various

Bottler – The Famous Grouse

Brand – The Famous Grouse

Selection – N/A

ABV – 40%

Age – NAS

Nose – Red apple, sweet malt, lemon custard, fresh baked bread
Taste – Light vanilla cream, thin caramel, custard, white bread
Finish – Light toastiness, black pepper, blackberry, bran flakes, black tea

Score: 4
Would I buy a bottle? No

Thoughts: Perfectly fine, but nothing very great.  The little bit of blackberry in the finish caught my attention, but for just a fleeting second.  Not a terrible value considering the price but uninspiring.
