Description: Nulu Single Barrel Bourbon: r/Bourbon “High Rye Heavyweight”
Spirit: Bourbon
Background: 30 for 30: Day 27. Back to Nulu for a bourbon barrel. This is barrel A23 selected by r/Bourbon on May 27th, 2021. Using the 60/36/4 high rye mash, it was aged for 6.5 years before bottling. While I won’t be scoring based on this, I have to say the wax on this bottle sucks. Super brittle and thick and just why?
Distillery – MGP
Bottler – Prohibition Craft Spirits
Brand – Nulu
Selection – r/Bourbon
ABV – 60.5%
Age – 6 Years
Nose – Brown sugar, caramel corn, sweet cherry, red apple, nice oak on the back end
Taste – Caramel, butter pastry, strawberry jam, strong vanilla
Finish – Kettle corn, cola, baking chocolate, burnt caramel, a touch on the warm side
Score: 5
Would I buy a bottle? No
Thoughts: Certainly not bad, but a bit straight forward. Nothing super interesting and enticing. Wish there was a brighter pop of fruit on this one. It comes and goes but is just a little inconsistent. With an $80+ price tag, it’s a bit of a let down.
