Review #: 578
Description: Octomore 10.1
Spirit: Scotch
Background: The 10th release of the Octomore lineup starts with a 5 year old whiskey that was aged in ex-bourbon. Using Scottish Concerto barley and peated to 107 ppm, not much else is surprising with the .1 releases so let’s jump in.
Distillery – Bruichladdich
Bottler – Bruichladdich
Brand – Octomore
Selection – N/A
ABV – 59.8%
Age – 5 Years
Nose – Unripe melon, yellow cake, orange oil, lemon juice, strawberry cheesecake, smoke is thick and meaty
Taste – Chocolate caramel truffle, really not getting much else but it is sweet and rich, maybe a hint of like some cherry making it like a black forest cake
Finish – Lots of chocolate and coffee, burnt caramel, torched lemon peel, leaves the mouth filled with smoke almost like a cigar
Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? $150 I think would just be a bit too steep for me
Thoughts: I’m a little surprised at how straight forward this is, but what it tastes like it nails and is delicious. This is the perfect dessert/end of night pour. Warm, super rich, sweet and not overly complicated that you have to dissect every sip. Just pour and enjoy.
