Description: Octomore 10.2
Spirit: Scotch
Background: The 10.2 release of Bruichladdich’s super peated line continues its tradition of being aged in wine casks. This one is 8 years old with the first 4 years in ex-bourbon before the final 4 years in sauternes. Sweet peat has really been a hit for me in the past so can Laddie keep it going?
Distillery – Bruichladdich
Bottler – Bruichladdich
Brand – Octomore
Selection – N/A
ABV – 56.9%
Age – 8 Years
Nose – Straight apple pie with a heavy cinnamon influence, freshly made glazed donut, can’t really get much peat but more like the smell and warmth of a bakery that has been cooking all morning, bran muffin
Taste – Cinnamon bun with heavy vanilla icing, candied orange, baked apples, salted caramel
Finish – Peat smoke comes in with some sweet lemon and cream, just barely burnt butter pasty, grilled apple, milk chocolate
Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? I think so
Thoughts: Compared to 10.1, this just has that extra dimension that you aren’t necessarily expecting from a normal whisky, but what you do want from Octomore. I will admit, I love bakeries and pastries and this gave me some very vivid notes that tied into them lending me to enjoy it a lot. It’s a fun one and definitely a pretty unique one in the world of Scotch.
