Review #364 – Five Lions Ledaig 2007 Madeira

Review #364 – Five Lions Ledaig 2007 Madeira

Review #: 364
Description: Five Lions Ledaig 2007 Madeira
Spirit: Scotch

Background: This is an Independent Bottling of Ledaig from Five Lions.  It was distilled in June of 2007 and aged in a first fill madeira barrique for 11 years before bottling in July of 2018.  Cask strength, fully matured wine barrel peated scotch is a weakness of mine, so let’s try it.

Distillery – Ledaig

Bottler – Five Lions

Brand – Five Lions

Selection – N/A

ABV – 57.8%

Age – 11 Years

Nose – Absolutely heavenly; peaty, chocolate, sweet apples, melon, sweet malt, nice oak
Taste – Vanilla, raspberry, smoked chocolate, barley sugar, candied lemon
Finish – Vanilla frosting, toasted oak, fiery embers, touch of brine, black pepper

Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? Yes

Thoughts: Just a really solid bottle.  The peat, wine, and oak all work so well together.  It’s not harsh or unbalanced.  Very solid and very tasty.  A well picked cask
