Review #408 – J&B Rare Blended Whisky

Review #408 – J&B Rare Blended Whisky

Review #: 408
Description: J&B Rare Blended Whisky
Spirit: Scotch

Background: Allegedly a combination of 42 different malt and grain whiskies, this blend bears the names of the London brokers Justerini and Brooks.  Debuting just after prohibition, it is supposed to have a bit of a sweeter profile to appeal to Americans, but apparently is Europe’s favorite Scotch.  Very affordable, lets see how it stands up.

Distillery – Various

Bottler – J&B

Brand – J&B

Selection – N/A

ABV – 40%

Age – NAS

Nose – Ginger, wet peat, bitter lemon, green apple, light honey, sea salt
Taste – tart lemon, orange oil, charcoal, battery acid.  Bitter and metallic, a bit of thin honey and caramel sweetness
Finish – More tacky and bitter ashy, black pepper, burnt toast, metallic

Score: 2
Would I buy a bottle? No

Thoughts: Would not have thought this was supposed to lend itself sweeter. Very bitter and acidic.  Not many redeeming factors here.
