Description: Jack Daniel’s Silver Select Single Barrel
Spirit: Bourbon
Background: Jack Daniel’s is one of the most iconic brands of American Whisky (and make no mistake, it is bourbon) across the globe. Nearly every bar you walk into will have it on the shelf. The Silver Select is (was?) a travel retail exclusive I picked up when traveling for work some time ago. It is a single barrel expression and marketed as some of the best barrels only available to international travelers, so lets see if it stands up to it.

Thoughts: Well this was a bit of a let down. Ethanol was just so dominant throughout. Lots on the nose and really suffocated the finish. Thankfully, it didn’t linger long. I think this was about $70 so I had high hopes but was let down. Being open helped it a little, but from the first sip to the last, it was rough to get through. Yes it is a single barrel, so maybe it was just a bad one, but definitely turns me off from ever trying one again.
