Review #472 – Port Askaig 10th Anniversary

Review #472 – Port Askaig 10th Anniversary

Review #: 471
Description: Port Askaig 10th Anniversary
Spirit: Scotch

Background: This whisky celebrates the 10th anniversary of Port Askaig.  It is a 10 year but not likely to be their own distillate and rather Caol Ila.  It is a blend of refill hogshead, 1st fill bourbon, and first fill sherry casks bottled at cask strength.

Distillery – Undisclosed

Bottler – Port Askaig

Brand – Port Askaig

Selection – N/A

ABV – 55.85%

Age – 10 Years

Nose – Grilled pineapple, candied lemon, sweet tarts, sourdough, coffee beans, a bit sour/tart, bbq meat
Taste – Sweet and thick – honey, brown sugar, pineapple juice, candied lemon peel
Finish – Hit of fruit like honey-melon, then lots of tart citrus, smoke and a hint of sulfur at the very end

Score: 6
Would I buy a bottle? Probably not

Thoughts: Solid and smoky, it has some nice fruit flavors behind it but nothing super above and beyond. Just a solid, Islay single malt and who is ever upset with that?
