Description: Tumblin’ Dice: r/Bourbon “Cobbler & Cream”
Spirit: Bourbon
Background: 30 for 30: Day 20. Tumblin Dice is a brand from Proof and Wood, who also hold “The Senator” and “The Presidential Dram,” and “The Funk” rum among a few others. This is a 6 year single barrel selected by r/Bourbon of MGP using the 60/36/4 mashbill. It was described as peaches, vanilla, and ice cream which really was the reason I bought the bottle. How do you say no to that? It was barreled on May 3rd, 2015 and bottled August 10th, 2021.
Distillery – MGP
Bottler – Proof and Wood
Brand – Tumblin’ Dice
Selection – r/Bourbon
ABV – 58.11%
Age – 6 Years
Nose – Oh yeah there are peaches, but not like peach rings. More of a cooked peach with brown sugar and maple syrup, milk chocolate, dry tobacco, toasted almonds, cinnamon stick
Taste – Super rich and chewy, peach gets a bit sweeter but still lots of brown sugar and maple syrup, dark cherry, vanilla cream
Finish – Fruit turns into ripe red apple, cinnamon and nutmeg, nice oak structure. The fruit comes in little waves which is really nice.
Score: 8
Would I buy a bottle? Yes
Thoughts: I unashamedly love this. The texture on this is just so heavy and amazing. This is what the Gatsby and the Lorely were really missing out on. I love how the fruit transitions throughout and it really is a lot of sweet baked goods. I would call it more peach pancakes than cobbler, but I am a fan of both so it’s a win-win.
