Review #82 – WhistlePig 10 Year Single Barrel: Johnson City Liquor and Wine

Review #: 82
Description: WhistlePig 10 Year Single Barrel: Johnson City Liquor and Wine
Spirit: Rye

Background: Another WhistlePig 10 Year Single Barrel, this time selected by Johnson City Liquor and Wine in New York. You can read about the standard bottling when I visited the Vermont tasting room. It is unknown whether the rye comes from Alberta Distillers or MGP nor the exact age.

Distillery – Undisclosed

Bottler – WhistlePig

Brand – WhistlePig

Selection – Johnson City Liquor and Wine

ABV – 57.55%

Age – 10 Years

Nose – Tons of rye spice, raspberry, toasted seeded bread
Taste – Honey, caramel, raspberry jam, freshly baked bread
Finish – Spicy rye, sourdough bread crust, tobacco

Score: 7
Would I buy a bottle? Probably

Thoughts: Oh man, if you like rye, this is right up your alley.  Start to finish, this was like a piece of toasted, heavy rye bread with raspberry jam on it.  As a bread baker and eater, this was quite enjoyable. The cost of entry is high, which is my only hesitation to immediately say yes to buying a bottle, but when it tastes this good without knowing too many details, it helps justify the price.
