Review #530 – Coppercraft 9 Year Single Barrel: K&L Wines

Review #: 530
Description: Coppercraft 9 Year Single Barrel: K&L Wines
Spirit: Bourbon

Background: 30 for 30: Day 24.  Coppercraft is coming out of Michigan.  A 9 year bourbon of their 75/21/4 mash selected by K&L Wines in California.  Distilled on November 7th, 2013, it carries a 9 year age statement along with a $75 price tag.  No goat, but not bad for the stats.

Distillery – MGP

Bottler – Coppercraft

Brand – Coppercraft

Selection – K&L Wines

ABV – 54.67%

Age – 9 Years

Nose – Lots of caramel, vanilla cream, buttered popcorn, green apple, strong burnt oak with some scorched rubber in there, toasted peanuts
Taste – Vanilla cream, milky caramel, bitter chocolate, smoked peaches, rich butter, plum
Finish – Oak is pretty aggressive with lots of charcoal, burnt popcorn, grilled peach, a slight tinge of metallic bitterness

Score: 4
Would I buy a bottle? I’d Pass

Thoughts: This might be a bit more up your alley if you really love oak, but to me the barrel was a bit too heavy and gave a touch too much bitterness to it.  The metallic note wasn’t consistent, but showed every once in a while and that’s something for me that’s hard to overlook.
